Troop 715 Activities Through September 2026
Boy Scout Troop 715 held its semi-annual Court of Honor at the church on September 21st. There were 100+ scouts, leaders, family, and friends in attendance. The Court of Honor recognizes scout activities and achievements over the last six months.
The troop’s summer activities have been busy with outdoor activities with new scouts eager to experience Troop 715 camping opportunities. The troop has welcomed 21 new scouts this year. With the new scouts, many parents have indicated a desire to take an active role to support the troop.
In May, 26 Scouts/adults went camping at Natural Chimneys Campground and had an exciting caving adventure with Wild Guyde in Bridgewater, VA.
In June 23 scouts/adults experienced a week of adventure, skill-building, and fun at Camp Shenandoah! The weather was amazingly comfortable for summer camp.
Thirty scouts/adults went to First Landing for a campout and fishing trip in July. Would you believe we caught 250 fish? We kept 50 and had fried fish for dinner. This was a great event which included volleyball games on the beach, swimming in the ocean and a four-hour charter boat trip.
Several of our scouts are attending National Jamboree in July. This is a gathering of thousands of scouts held every four years at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, Scouting America’s premier high-adventure playground in the heart of the New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia.
Our August campout is Water Country! 15 scouts camped at Newport News Park and spent Saturday at Water Country USA. September was the Great Dismal Swamp campout where the scouts canoed into the swamp to a remote campsite.
In the last six months, the troop recognized 34 scouts for rank advancement, including 2 scouts earning the Eagle rank. That makes 10 scouts who have achieved the highest rank in scouting over the last year! Nationally, only 7% of scouts earn the Eagle Rank.
The Scouts earned 85 merit badges over the last six months. The Court of Honor also recognized the recently elected new Scout leaders and new and transitioning members of the Troop Committee. We congratulate the Scouts on their many achievements and thank the many adults involved in troop leadership.
